Bullying and Suicides

The question is posed: Should bully's be held accountable where their victim commits suicide?

yes, but it largely depends on the extent of the bullying. I was bullied a lot in high school and made fun of but I did not commit suicide. Suicide is not a direct result of bullying. Suicide is a reaction to circumstance. I suspect that if you were to look at the circumstances of suicides where bullying and cyber bullying are concerned you would find that the victims suffer from a lack of support and understanding at home, a lack of a safe place to retreat to, feelings of extreme isolation brought on by environment and social dynamics. It is one thing to get pushed around and another thing to feel as if everyone hates you and there is no out for your situation.
To hold someone accountable in these circumstances I would need to be convinced that the perpetrator had pushed the victim to this action directly and that there were no other factors that led to the act itself. I suspect it would be very hard to say that the bully was the only one at fault in the circumstances.
